Second Suomi

Map of Finland

Map of Finland

I was back in Finland again this week for a very hectic, but very interesting trip.  This time the trip took me to Oulu, Tampere and Helsinki.

Oulu is about 300km northwest of Helsinki on the western coast, only a 1 hour flight.  There was a fair amount of snow on the ground and it was very cold (at least for this west-coaster).  I stayed near the Market District, and had an afternoon to venture out for a bit.  Very pretty little city.

From Oulu, it was back to Helsinki for more meetings, followed by a train trip from Helsinki to Tampere for Friday meetings.  The train was, without exception, the cleanest train I’ve ever been on, and one of the smoothest rides.  Highly recommended as a way to get around Finland if you have the time/opportunity.

Tampere, the last city I visitied, was about 1.5 hours west of Helsinki by train.  Besides some good meetings, the other highlight was a Finnish lunch of Moose and Mashed Potatoes.  That was a stick-to-your-ribs lunch that I won’t soon forget.

I was too busy to take a lot of pix/video, but I did manage to capture a few videos, mostly from Oulu and the Helsinki train station.

Finland is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places that I have had the privilege to visit.  People are very friendly, the food is good, and it’s easy for a foreigner to get around.

Here’s a short video of the video I took in Finland.
