First, RIP Chelsea B. You will be missed more than you’ll know.

Second, and on a positive note, 2007 starts out on a bang musically. It’s frigid in the Pac NW, which may influence the desire for sun & warmth. So, as a result, I spent the first couple of weeks in January checked up on a few sunny-pop artists/discs I’ve been meaning to give a closer listen to. It may be the frigid weather but I’m stuck in a west coast sunny pop mood this week.

I finally got my hands on the Checkpoint Charley disc along with some recent Cloud Eleven releases. Checkpoint Charley is a Jelllyfish-influenced band and C11 sounds like Teenage Fanclub meets XTC meets America.

On another note, I just stumbled onto an Eric Matthews video on YouTube. For those who aren’t familiar, Eric is a Portland-area artist who shows up in videos frequently.

Video is here.
